Product or Service Code

PSC

A four-character code describing what the government is buying — the product, service, or R&D — distinct from the industry NAICS code.

A Product or Service Code (PSC) is a four-character code used in federal procurement systems to describe what is being purchased — a specific product, service, or research/development output. Where NAICS classifies the seller's industry, the PSC classifies the deliverable. PSCs are widely used for spend analysis in FPDS and USAspending; a single NAICS code can map to many PSCs and vice versa, so contractors track both to find relevant opportunities.
